Our family recently returned from a beautiful vacation to Casa de Campo, a stunning resort in La Romana, an hour from Punta Cana. Located on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, the region is known for its breathtaking beaches, vibrant culture, and rich history. The area is a tropical paradise, offering a mix of Spanish, Taino, and African influences, which can be seen in the architecture, music, and warm hospitality of the locals.
Casa de Campo, a luxurious resort nestled on the shores of the Caribbean, was our home for the week. We stayed in one of their private villas, which was the perfect setup for our group of travelers ranging from 55 to 2 years old. Whether you’re planning a vacation with young children, teenagers, adults, or grandparents, this resort has something for everyone.
Our days were filled with plenty of activities to keep the entire family entertained. The resort offers horseback riding, and our youngest loved the pony rides while the adults explored the beautiful trails on horseback. For the golf lovers in the family, Casa de Campo is home to world-class courses, including the famous Teeth of the Dog. We enjoyed some fun competition and gorgeous ocean views while playing. If relaxation is more your speed, the resort’s spa is a must-visit. With rejuvenating treatments and a peaceful atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to unwind.
The Beach Club at Casa de Campo was a fantastic spot for our family, especially for the little ones. While we didn’t get a chance to explore the adults-only pool and bar area, the beach itself was perfect for us. The club provided a beautiful stretch of soft sand with a full-size pool, a shallow kids’ pool, and a nearby play area. The kids loved playing with beach toys, which were provided daily, while we relaxed in beach chairs, enjoying food and drinks brought by the attentive servers. We spent hours swimming in the stunning Caribbean blue water, and a few of us snorkeled many times, spotting colorful fish, a small shark, and even a flounder. It was the perfect blend of fun and relaxation for the entire family.
For a bit of adventure, Casa de Campo also has a shooting center. Some of us tried our hand at skeet shooting, and while we may not have hit every target, it was an exciting experience for everyone.
We also spent time exploring nearby Altos de Chavón, a charming replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village. We loved visiting it for dinner and shopping. The views are stunning, and the cobblestone streets and artisan shops give you a glimpse into the cultural richness of the Dominican Republic. Dining there was always a highlight of our trip, and we returned a few times to enjoy its ambiance.
Casa de Campo’s Marina was another dining spot we loved. The variety of restaurants offered something for everyone, and the setting was unbeatable—dining by the water with beautiful yachts in the background made for some truly memorable meals. We also made sure to experience dining at the hotel itself, which delivered exceptional food and service in a relaxed, elegant atmosphere.
While we didn’t venture out on other excursions, there are plenty of options nearby. You could take a boat tour to nearby islands like Saona or Catalina for a day of snorkeling and island hopping.
Overall, Casa de Campo is an excellent choice for families looking to travel together. Whether you’re a toddler, a grandparent, or somewhere in between, there are countless ways to enjoy your time. From relaxing by the pool to more adventurous activities, the resort offers something for every age group and interest, making it a top destination for family vacations.
